HUNTING AT

CAHABA RIVER NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

The Sport Hunting Plan and Environmental Assessment for Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge were available for public review and comment through April 5, 2007. The comment period has now ended and we are in the process of incorporating relevant comments and finalizing these documents. Once these final documents are complete we will replace these copies of the draft documents with the final versions.

In response to a 2003 lawsuit filed by the Fund for Animals, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will amend or rewrite environmental assessments that describe hunting programs at twenty-three national wildlife refuges located in the Southeast Region. The new environmental assessments will address the cumulative impacts of hunting at all refuges which were named in or otherwise affected by the lawsuit. The documents above address the hunting program at Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge in Alabama.

Compatibility Determinations have previously been completed for Hunting at Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge. These can be found here.
