These maps show the locations of banded pelicans and pelicans fitted with satellite transmitters. All the pelicans were banded and fitted at Breton Island.

Unfortunately, we are no longer receiving data from any of the satellite transmitters but we may fit more pelicans with transmitters in the future.

The map below shows the entire Breton National Wildlife Refuge as well as adjacent state-owned lands. The Mississippi River is shown flowing to Venice, Louisiana and beyond. You can also see the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet Canal and Delta National Wildlife Refuge.

The map below shows the band recovery/sighting locations for brown pelicans banded on the Chandeleur Islands, Breton National Wildlife Refuge. The data includes pelicans banded in years 2000 - 2003. The data is current as of July 14, 2004. Note that the range of these pelicans extends well beyond the nesting grounds on the refuge.

The map below shows the band recovery/sighting locations for brown pelicans banded on the Chandeleur Islands, Breton National Wildlife Refuge. The data includes pelicans banded in years 2000 - 2002. The data is current as of October 10, 2003. Note that the range of these pelicans extends beyond 1,000 kilometers, or 621 miles; well beyond the nesting grounds on the refuge.

The map below shows satellite tracking locations for brown pelican number 49002; banded at Breton National Wildlife Refuge. The data is current as of May, 2005. This pelican stayed in coastal Louisiana.

The map below shows satellite tracking locations for brown pelican number 49003; banded at Breton National Wildlife Refuge. The data is current as of May, 2005. This pelican crossed the Gulf of Mexico to the coast of Mexico and to Florida north of Tampa.
