Saturday April 14, 2007
9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is celebrating Earth Day with our Annual Earth Day
Litter Pick-Up on Saturday, April 14th, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Trash will be collected
from the roads around Blackwater NWR, beginning at the newly renovated Blackwater Visitor Center
at 2145 Key Wallace Drive. The public is invited to join us as we work to keep our public
lands beautiful, and also try to prevent wildlife from being drawn to the dangerous roadsides by trash.
Participants will need to bring gloves and wear brightly colored clothes for working along the roads. If you plan on staying all day, please bring a bag lunch. Trash bags, snacks, drinks, and maps will be supplied by the Friends of Blackwater for everyone who comes. The collected trash will be picked up by refuge staff. Individuals and groups of all ages are invited, and low-traffic litter areas will be set aside for those with young children.
If you, your family, or your organization is interested in joining in the Litter Pick-up, or if you need more information, please contact Ranger Tom Miller at 410-228-2677. If at all possible, please call to let us know that you would like to participate. Come and join us for a very worthwhile Earth Day celebration! The wildlife will greatly appreciate it!
