| Comprehensive Conservation PlanPROJECT PROFILE Current Status: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is developing a Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) and associated NEPA documents for Banks Lake National Wildlife Refuge (NWR). An overview of the CCP process is provided in Planning Update 1. Public scoping began in late 2007, and a public scoping meeting was held in Lakeland, Georgia on January 24, 2008 (see Planning Update 2). The purpose of the scoping process is to identify important topics concerning wildlife and habitat on the refuge, day-to-day management and operation, interactions with our neighbors (including exotic weed management on refuge waters), and public use of the refuge. We encourage you to get involved in the scoping process by identifying these topics and sharing your ideas. A summary of the public scoping comments can be found in Planning Update 3. The Banks Lake NWR Draft CCP and EA are available for Public Review (Federal Register / Vol. 74, No. 106 / Thursday, June 4, 2009). A Public Review Meeting has been scheduled at the Lakeland (Lanier County, Georgia) Courthouse on Thursday, June 18 starting at 6:00 PM (see Planning Update 4 for details). Written comments will be accepted until July 6, 2009. Purpose of CCP: As part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, the Banks Lake NWR is required to have a CCP in place to guide the management of fish, wildlife, plants, habitats, and public uses for a period of 15 years. Public Involvement: If you would like to be included on our mailing list for future planning updates and public meeting announcements, please send your request to:
