Auburn, Alabama Field Office was established in 1986 and provides biological consultation and overview of the National Wildlife Refuges in Georgia and Alabama to help meet wildlife resource objectives and needs especially in regard to migratory birds and threatened and endangered species. The goals of this station is to conserve, protect, and enhance fish and wildlife and their habitats by providing leadership and assistance to agencies, groups and individuals in the states of Georgia and Alabama that are involved in the management of federal trust resources, especially the National Wildlife Refuge System. Migratory Bird Field Offices also provide leadership and serves as a primary coordinator for all national migratory bird surveys and other migratory bird activities such as waterfowl banding and neotropical bird monitoring programs. We also strive to preserve and restore wildlife habitats and populations on private lands in Georgia and Alabama by providing leadership and active participation in all federal and state private lands programs as well as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Ecosystem Management Teams.
Our goals for Alabama and Georgia are to return waterfowl populations to the levels of the mid-1970's, to achieve population goals by restoring and protecting wetland and grassland habitat, and to include twelve habitat joint ventures and two species joint ventures in the U.S. , Canada, and Mexico (International Agreement, signed in 1986).
