Oct. 13, 2006 - Grant to acquire and protect Paulding Forest -- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced a grant of $1.0 million to Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division for acquisition and protection of Paulding Forest Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Paulding and Polk Counties.
June 19, 2006 - Georgia student wins wildlife art scholarship -- David Jones, a fourteen-year-old from Rossville, won Georgia’s 2006 Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest held recently in Athens, Georgia. Five judges unanimously selected David’s colored-pencil rendition of an Emperor Goose as the Best of Show out of 750 entries
June 6, 2006 - Service proposes critical habitat for 7 mussels in GA, FL, and AL. -- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed to designate approximately 1,200 miles of river and stream channel as critical habitat for seven species of freshwater mussels protected under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
