Refuge Location

Chase Lake NWR is located in western Stutsman County about 10 miles northwest of Medina, North Dakota.

Driving Directions

To Chase Lake National Wildlife Refuge:

From Woodworth, ND, on Highway 36 travel 5 miles west. At the Chase Lake NWR sign, turn south and travel 5 miles on the gravel road. Turn east and travel 2 miles, go south for 2 miles, turn west and travel 4 miles on the prairie trail. Then turn south and travel 1 mile to the Chase Lake Pass. The Chase Lake Pass is the best spot to view the entire refuge.

From Medina, ND, on Stutsman County Road 68. Travel north 10 miles until you see a big brown sign that says Chase Lake NWR. From the sign, go 7 miles west (3 good gravel and 4 miles of 2-track prairie trail) and 1 mile south. You will be at the Chase Lake Pass, which is the best spot to view the entire refuge.

To Chase Lake Office Headquarters:

From Jamestown take Highway 281 North to Pingree (approximately 20 miles), take highway 36 West to 60th AVE SE (approximately 18 miles), take 60th AVE SE South and follow signs to District Headquarters (2 miles). There are Chase Lake Prairie Project signs located at Highway 36 two miles from the office headquarters and also a sign 1/4 mile from headquarters.

From Medina take Highway 68 North to Woodworth (approximately 17 miles), take highway 36 East to 60th AVE SE (approximately 5 miles), take 60th AVE SE South and follow signs to District Headquarters (2 miles). There are Chase Lake Prairie Project signs located at Highway 36 two miles from the office headquarters and also a sign 1/4 mile from headquarters.
