Wetland Restoration and Creation

Increasing wetland habitat through restoration of existing degraded basins and creation of new ones is an integral part of the Chase Lake Prairie Project (CLPP). In the past, many wetlands were altered to accommodate increased farming needs, negatively affecting wetland-dependent species. Restoring and creating wetland basins for wildlife continues to be a priority action within the CLPP.

Restoration or creation projects are implemented through 10-year Wildlife Extension Agreements. Designs vary from simple ditch plugs to fairly complex water control structures which provide water management capability.
