Public UseArrowwood National Wildlife Refuge invites the visitor to enjoy an enormous array of wildlife. Here you will find many opportunities to observe and photograph wildlife in their natural settings. Sportsmen and women can enjoy both hunting and fishing on the refuge. Hunters can seek out deer in the wooded ravines or comb the prairies for upland game birds. Anglers can cast for northern pike and other game fish along the many lake shores. Separate brochures describing both the hunting and fishing regulations are available at the refuge headquarters. Warm days of spring and summer see many people enjoying the Refuge's Warbler Woodland Watchable Wildlife Area on the south-east end of Arrowwood lake. The area is open during daylight hours only. Rest rooms, tables, and grills are available. Please do not leave fires unattended (no fires outside of the grills please) and help keep the area clean by taking your trash home with you.
Boating and CanoeingAll Refuge waters are open to non-motorized boating and canoeing during the same time that fishing is permitted. On Arrowwood and Jim lakes only, outboards up to 25HP are allowed during the same period. SkiingWhile no trails are specifically groomed or maintained for cross-country skiing, the refuge is open to this growing winter activity. During unusually hard winters, large numbers of deer may concentrate on certain portions of the Refuge. When these conditions occur, deer concentration areas will be closed to public use. Contact the Refuge manager for current information. Berry PickingBerry pickers can find juneberries, chokecherries, and other fruits in the steep, wooded coulees of the Refuge. Picking of these fruits or berries is permitted for personal use only. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service |
