Comprehensive Conservation Planning (CCP) Process

The Service is pleased to announce that it is restarting the CCP process for Archie Carr NWR. The Service will evaluate the issues raised to date by the public and the governmental partners, as well as the issues raised to date internally to develop a reasonable range of alternatives. The alternatives will then be evaluated for selection of the proposed alternative to be implemented in the CCP. A new timeline will be developed and posted for this planning process.

  • Restore native plants
  • Emphasize public education
  • Increase staffing and funding
  • Address the negative impacts to the Indian River Lagoon from storm water and reverse osmosis
  • Include biological research as a compatible use
  • Decrease negative impacts of boats and jet skis
  • Install only small parking areas
  • Decrease danger of monofilament fishing line to wildlife
  • Address the adverse impacts of Sebastian Inlet on the refuge
  • Increase land acquisition
  • Decrease the raccoon predation of sea turtle nests
  • Decrease beach armoring
  • Address the impacts of beach renourishment
  • Address beach access issues
