Agenda Topics:

Proposed Introduction of diploid black carp by Missississippi Department of Agriculture. The coordinator gave a brief synopsis of the current status of the proposed introduction as well as described the risk assessment developed by the ANSTF on the subject of black carp. Additionally, the proposed asian carp management and control workshop for April l9th and 20th was described. Members of the excom discussed whether and what action should be taken regarding the introduction of diploid black carp. Equating this introduction similarly to the commercial use of mitten crab, the excom determined to draft a letter to the MI Dept. of Ag. requesting the Dept. reconsider this introduction and to have staff participate in the St. Louis Asian carp workshop.
Action: The coordinator will draft a letter and circulate through the EXCOM.

Washington Invasive Species and Ballast Water Legislation Scott Smith WDFW has requested that Mark Sytsma testify on behalf of the WRP at hearings on the legislation. Mark Sytsma will testify regarding his role on the EXCOM and WRP support for actions that control invasives. The WRP will review the legislation and draft a letter stating its position on the legislation.
Action: Randy Brown will ask Steve Jenkins with the Regional Water Quality Board to draft some initial comments for review and amendment by the Panel members.

WRP Work Plan - Coordinator provided an update on status of work plan (close to completion). Randy and Wendy commented that they needed a copy of the plan. This was sent to them by e-mail after the conference call. WRP Annual Report - Coordinator provided an update on status of annual report. Several states and agencies have not reported. Randy Brown asked for a copy of the CalFed report. This was faxed after the conference call. The coordinator will provide annual report by the end of February with the reports available.

Invasive Species Council - Coordinator provided EXCOM with a listing of the individuals selected for the Council. Derrick Toba and Linda Sheehan are WRP members that have been appointed to the Council. The first meeting of the council will be held the last week in January.

Invasive Weed Week - Invasive Weed Week will be held in DC Feb. 28-March 3, 2000 to highlight invasive weeds. Aquatics is being promoted by a consoritum through an aquatic legislative conference. Mark S. will be attending. It was suggested a presentation and handouts on the WRP would be helpful at the conference.
Action: The coordinator will contact conference organizers to determine a place for WRP.
