Teachers, give your students something to howl about! For educators interested in bringing the red wolf to their classrooms, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Red Wolf Recovery Program offers a variety of tools and resources to enhance the learning and teaching experience.

Far Traveler Curriculum

“ Far Traveler: A Teacher’s Companion to Red Wolf Recovery” offers a variety of interactive activities and lessons for grades K-8. Curriculum materials integrate critical thinking skills, reading comprehension, and vocabulary development into lessons about the red wolf.

Red Wolf Discovery Box
Do you want your students to get up close and personal with the red wolf? The Red Wolf Recovery Program lends Red Wolf Discovery Boxes to teachers without charge. Each box contains a red wolf pelt, skull, tracking collar, interpretive materials, and a track cast. Please plan ahead; due to increased demand, reservations are required and each box may only be kept for one week before it must be returned to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (some exceptions may be possible). Red Wolf Recovery Teacher Workshop

Come to the heart of red wolf country to learn about North Carolina's most endangered mammal! The Red Wolf Recovery Teacher Workshop will cover the basics of red wolf biology and conservation and introduces educators to our K-8 curriculum, Far Traveler. The workshop will focus on concepts such as food webs, habitat, endangered species, wildlife management, and conflict-resolution regarding wildlife in communities. Participants will learn and discuss activities from our curriculum as well as identify and cast red wolf tracks in Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge!

This free, one-day workshop, offered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Red Wolf Recovery Program, meets North Carolina Environmental Education Certification Criteria I or III, and may qualify for one Continuing Education Unit. Red Wolf Coalition

The Red Wolf Coalition advocates for the long-term survival of red wolf populations by teaching about the red wolf and by fostering public involvement in red wolf conservation. The Coalition hosts an “Adopt-A-Red Wolf” program, allowing individuals, classrooms, or other groups to sponsor a wild red wolf and receive periodic updates about their specific wolf.
