Visitor Services Internships Visitor Services Interns focus primarily on the public use areas of refuge
programming. This internship provides the best overall experience for someone
interested in interpretation, environmental education, or recreational
uses. To specialize in Visitor Services, usually a 6-month commitment
is required. Contact Abbey_Reibel to
discuss a possible arrangement. Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge Duties will include conducting interpretive programs, leading canoe tours, maintaining trails and overlooks, installing and maintaining signs, and participating in the general maintenance program, as it relates to public use. Maintenance - Each intern will perform diverse maintenance duties relating to resource and public use management, as do all refuge staff! Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Duties will include Assisting Wildlife Interpretive Specialist with refuge Public Use Program, including conducting interpretive programs and bird walks, leading canoe tours, manning the Visitor Center, working the Book Store, and accomplishing maintenance of trails and the Visitor Center. Each intern will develop a special project during the internship. Opportunities are available for work with developing refuge web pages, leaflets, and special events. Administrative - Each intern will perform some work in the Manteo Office to assist with on-going administrative duties and gain a better appreciation for all aspects of Refuge operations. Maintenance - Each intern will perform diverse maintenance duties relating to resource and public use management.
