MMS Class takes a "walk on the wild side"

MMS Field Trip


Recently Manteo Middle School teacher, Erica Burkhart and class took a field trip to Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. Refuge Visitor Services Specialist, Cindy Heffley guided them on their search for the "wonders of the wild" Did you know the Refuge has one of the largest populations of Black bear east of the Mississippi River? The National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center on Roanoke Island is open Mon-Sat 9:00 am-4:00 pm & Sunday noon-4:00 pm; admission is FREE. Alligator River and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuges are open daylight hours year-round. Explore on your own!
