Free Weekly Preschool Young Naturalists Program Scheduled at National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center

Due to the popularity of the first program, the Free Preschool Young Naturalists Program will be scheduled each Friday beginning March 8 at the National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center on Roanoke Island. Children 5 and under, along with their parents, grandparents, or caregivers are invited to explore the natural world through hands-on education. The program is geared specifically for ages 2-5; however, toddlers and infants are welcome to come along as a part of a group or older children as helpers.  There are two identical sessions held each Friday from 9:30-10:30 am and from 1:00-2:00 pm.  Each hour-long session will include indoor and outdoor activities.  Be prepared to have fun learning about nature while taking a hike, hearing a story, doing a craft or exploring the exhibit hall.

Everyone should come prepared for outdoor exploration, with closed-toe shoes, long pants, and layers appropriate for the weather.  In the event of severe weather, we may cancel any outdoor parts of the activities.  No registration is required at this time.  All children attending the program must be supervised by an adult. People with disabilities are encouraged to participate in all of our programs. Please call ahead with any special needs you may have, so we may better serve you.

For more information, please contact Cindy Heffley at 252-475-4180 or cindy_heffley@fws.gov.
