Alligator River and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuges Announce Fall Program Schedule
Spend time outdoors this fall on one of YOUR national wildlife refuges. Whether you are interested in visiting the ever-changing habitat at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge or want to learn about wildlife of the mainland, you’re sure to find something here.
Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge:
(Both programs meet at Creef Cut Trail parking lot at Milltail Road and HWY 64.)
Guided Saturday Tram Tours- Climb aboard the open-air tram and join others on a leisurely tour. To guarantee your seats, you may register ahead of time and pay $7 per person. Children 12 and under may register for free with one or more paying adults. Unreserved seats will be filled at no charge on a first come/first serve basis on the morning of the tour. Please call 252-216-9464 for reservations.

Red Wolf Howlings
Come and learn about the endangered red wolf during a short presentation and journey to the heart of the refuge for an adventurous attempt to hear our captive red wolves produce their haunting sounds. The program will occur except with lightning, heavy wind or rain, or impassable road conditions. FREE and NO RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED.

National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center on Roanoke Island:
(The visitor center is located across from Fort Raleigh and Lost Colony)
Preschool Young Naturalist Program
Join us for a fun adventure as we learn about wildlife. This hour-long program will include story time, a craft, and a short hike on the trail at the visitor center. Adults must accompany the children. No reservations are required for this FREE program. Contact Cindy Heffley at 252-475-4180 for more information.
• Oct-Dec: Weekly on Friday: 9:30—10:30 AM AND 1:00—2:00 PM
Self-guided Scavenger Hunt Program
The scavenger hunt is geared towards preschool through 8th grade. Stop by the information desk and request a clipboard, pencil, and sheets for the exhibit hall and/or nature trail. This is a fun way to challenge children (and adults) as they explore the exhibit hall and trail.
Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge:
Guided Bird Walks
Come out and meet our resident and migratory birds. We welcome all bird enthusiasts on our walks. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, you’ll enjoy this casual stroll beside North Pond. All bird walks are from 8:00—9:30 AM
