Visitor Services Suspended on Pea Island and Alligator River National Wildlife Refuges due to Approach of Hurricane Irene

Beginning Thursday, August 25, 2011, all public programming on both Alligator River and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuges will be canceled and Pea Island Visitor Center will be closed until further notice.

Implementation of the Refuge Hurricane Preparedness Plan was begun mid-morning today. Refuge staff and volunteers are preparing refuge facilities and equipment for the approach of Hurricane Irene. Effective close of business on Thursday (4pm), all volunteer activities on both refuges are canceled until further notice.
