Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge: Volunteer Opportunities

Black Skimmer
Spring is in the air! Many birds, like the Black Skimmer above, will be nesting very soon, and summer human visitors will begin "flocking" to the Outer Banks, as well. So, it’s time for Spring cleaning! Put on some work gloves, a pair of boots, and grab a trash bag for the annual spring litter pick up at the North end of Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. Join Refuge staff and volunteers on April 10th at the fishing “hot spot” by Bonner Bridge and help keep our local natural areas pristine and beautiful for all to enjoy. “The worm has turned, and the fish are starting to bite, however so are the mosquitoes, but no worries I’ll bring plenty of insect repellant ,” said Abbey Reibel, with the USFWS. “We will meet at 10:00 a.m. right in the parking lot on the south side of the bridge over Oregon Inlet and disperse form there, covering catwalks, marshes, and beaches.” Call or e-mail Abbey at 252-987-1118, Abbey_Reibel@fws.gov for further details.
