Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Crabbing Rodeo

Amy Berry of Manteo is all smiles as she shows off the enormous crab taken during the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Crabbing and Fishing Rodeo on Saturday morning. Though crabbing wasn't the best it's ever been, over 300 people spent a morning "connecting with nature" and enjoying being in a beautiful part of the refuge. Cindy Heffley, Visitor Services Specialist noted, “Once again local businesses rose to the occasion and donated a wide variety of prizes to give the children. We always have a drawing at noon where every child wins a prize. It’s always fun to call out each name and see the child come up and look over all the prizes before selecting just the right one.” This year 121 children received prizes donated by over 25 local businesses.
