Pea Island Visitor Center Closed in Preparation for Approaching Storms
Beginning on Saturday, September 6, the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center will be closed due to the approach of Tropical Storm/Hurricane Hanna. The Center will remain closed through the week-end. Refuge Manager Mike Bryant advises that it may remain closed into next week, depending on actual impacts we receive from Hanna and the storm tracks for Ike and Josephine. "We'll just have to wait and see what these storms bring in the way of wind, water, and sand," he added.
At this time, there are no further refuge closures. The public may use refuge trails, beaches, parking areas, etc. during daylight hours, unless Dare County announces a mandatory evacuation.
For more information about refuge activities and closure, contact the refuge office at 252-473-1131.
