North Carolina national wildlife refuges invite you enjoy connecting with nature this 4th of July week-end by visiting a refuge near you. Whether you like to fish, paddle, go birding, or stroll on the beach, national wildlife refuges have places for you to enjoy. However, fireworks are prohibited on national wildlife refuges. It is a violation of Title 50 of the Code of Federal Regulations to carry, possess, or discharge fireworks or other explosives on a national wildlife refuge. District Fire Management Officer Tom Crews reminds us, "Besides being against the law on refuges, with the high fire danger, the personal use of fireworks anywhere could cause more fires. It's best to leave the discharge of fireworks to the professionals."
