Pea Island Offers Special Program as a Preview to Wings Over Water
Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge will host a Wings Over Water festival preview on Wednesday, November 1st at the Pea Island Visitor Center. Brunton representative Jim Danzenkaker will lead a birding tour on North Pond Trail, with a focus on optics. Mr. Danzenkaker is a very accomplished birder and has led birding tours in countries throughout the world, including Ecuador and Panama. His trip at Pea Island will feature a variety of Brunton binoculars and scopes ideal for birding in natural areas like Pea Island.
"Jim's visit comes at a wonderful time of year, when visitors may view many different species of wintering waterfowl and migrating shorebirds," explains Wildlife Interpretive Specialist Ann Marie Chapman. "It also offers interested visitors a preview of the Wings Over Water festival, which will feature birding trips throughout eastern North Carolina."
The Wings Over Water festival begins the following week, and runs from November 7-12. More information about the festival can be obtained at www.wingsoverwater.org or by contacting the Chamber of Commerce at 252-441-8144.
Refuge visitors interested in Jim's program should come to the Pea Island Visitor Center at 8:00am on Wednesday, November 1st. Reservations are not required, and there is no charge for this trip. Please contact Interpretive Specialist Chapman at 252-987-1118 or by e-mail at AnnMarie_Chapman@fws.gov for questions about the program or for more information.
