In October 2005, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listed the southwest Alaska Distinct Population Segment (DPS) of the northern sea otter (Enhydra lutris kenyoni) as threatened under the Endangered Species Act (see 70 FR 46366). In October 2009, the Service designated critical habitat for this DPS (74 FR 51988).
On September 6, 2013, the Service published a Federal Register notice informing the public of the the availability of our Recovery Plan for the threatened Southwest Alaska Distinct Population Segment of the Northern Sea Otter (Enhydra lutris kenyoni). The objective of the recovery plan is to delist this DPS through implementation of a variety of recovery measures that are outlined in the plan. Once again we thank all of the many partners who contributed to this effort.
