Conservation Planning Assistance

Conservation Planning Assistance (pdf) uses the best available science and practical land management techniques to ensure that land use/land development projects proceed in a manner consistent with the Service’s mission. Our focus is on early coordination and taking a landscape level approach to resource problem solving, especially where we have environmental review responsibilities under federal statutes. We provide biological advice to other federal and state agencies, industry, and members of the public concerning the conservation of fish and wildlife and their habitats that may be affected by large-scale development activities, such as road construction, mineral exploration, utility line installation, and dredge and fill activities. Recommendations are made to maximize our effectiveness with the goal of achieving reasonable ways to avoid, minimize, or compensate for harmful effects to fish, wildlife and their habitats.
