Annual Monte Vista Crane Festival

Kid’s Fishing Day
Kids, with their parents, are invited to bring their fishing poles & bait out to Monte Vista NWR to try their hand at fishing, Volunteers from the Friends of the San Luis Valley NWR's and refuge staff will be on hand to help reel in the big ones. (Travel 8 miles south of Monte Vista on HWY 15, turn west on 8 south and travel 1 mile, then follow the signs)

Saturday June 28th, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Open to Children 16 & Under. Anglers will be allowed to catch & Keep 4 fish each.

National Wildlife Refuge Week
October of every year, in a week-long celebration, we celebrate National Wildlife Refuges and our many partners that make them possible. Join us for Kid's Crane Festival, guided evening crane walks, special presentations, and partner appreciation open-house.


Christmas Bird Count
The annual Christmas Bird Count is centered on Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge. Sharpen your birding skills and help us count who of our feathered friends find refuge here during coldest time of the year.
