Cooperative Planning

The Habitat Conservation Division reviews and comments on State and Federal environmental documents, helping project proponents and decision makers minimize impacts to fish and wildlife species and their habitats.  We participate in planning efforts, conduct studies, and make recommendations to ensure equal consideration for fish and wildlife resources, including ways to avoid, minimize, and compensate for adverse impacts in accordance with the Service’s mitigation policy.

Coordination with Federal Agencies

The Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act and the National Environmental Policy Act provide the authority for the Service's involvement in evaluating impacts to fish and wildlife from proposed water resource development projects.
