"Conserving the Nature of America"

Texas Mid-Coast Volunteer Program

Volunteers play a vital role in helping the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service fulfill its mission of conserving, protecting and enhancing America's fish and wildlife and their habitats. The amount of time volunteered varies from full-time to a few hours a week or month, or during a particular season.

Volunteers perform a wide variety of tasks. These could include assisting in habitat modification projects such as developing freshwater impoundments, maintenance projects, leading tours and providing information and interpretation to the public, helping with environmental education for school groups, performing clerical and administrative duties, and taking part in special projects such as bird banding.

Volunteers with a variety of skills and interests can play a valuable role at the refuges. Job training will be provided when necessary. While there is no age limit, anyone under 18 years of age must have written parental approval.

The refuge complex provides a limited number of RV sites with full hook-ups. These are available at no charge, in return for 24 hours of volunteer work per person per week. Arrangements must be made in advance with the volunteer coordinator.

If you would like to be a part of our committed group of volunteers, please contact the volunteer coordinator via one of the following methods.
