Hunting
Hunting for ducks, geese, coots, and mergansers is permitted in designated areas. Hunting of sandhill cranes is prohibited on the refuge.

Interpretation
A self-serve indoor exhibit at refuge headquarters provides information about the refuge and its wildlife.

Wildlife Observation
Birding is popular through spring and summer, nearly 200 species have been recorded on the refuge. The public roads that encircle the refuge provide good vantage points for viewing wildlife on the refuge and on adjacent lands. Hiking is allowed in the north half of the refuge September 20 through March 31.

Hours
The refuge office is open daily April 1 through November 15, but may be closed while personnel are in the field.
