Continued . . . Visitors in late spring and summer come to view the nesting osprey, which often put on an air show as they hunt the River for their next meal. As many as 6 osprey at one time have been seen over the River from the Refuge Headquarters building! Opportunities to photograph wildlife abound as you travel the trails through the Refuge's different habitats. A trip down the Carmans River offers increased opportunity to capture the abundance of estuary life from cormorants, black ducks, mallards, and osprey, to egrets, herons, kingfisher, and turtles. While the river is in full bloom for spring and summer, the real attraction is when the shores come alive with the reds, oranges and yellows of fall as the maple and tupelo set the scene before the winter rain and snow.
