Art Inspired by Nature

Young people in Rhode Island are organizing a green art show in August and submissions are welcome. The teens founded an environmental advocacy group at the Kettle Pond Visitor Center at Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge in Rhode Island.

A group of ten teenagers from four Rhode Island high schools has been using art to encourage awareness and appreciation of nature. They founded "Greenhouse," which is now hosting "Earth Focus – A Showcase of Art inspired by Nature" on August 22 from 7-9 pm at the Corliss Auditorium on the University of Rhode Island Bay Campus. The event provides a venue for poets, singers, musicians, artists and filmmakers to share their creations.

Submissions are welcomed through July 20. For questions and submission details contact Ana Flores at ana@art-farm.net or 401-364-0087. Greenhouse is supported by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges of Rhode Island and TogetherGreen.

The Greenhouse group previously hosted a night hike last October as well as a monthly "Granola Bar" with open mic opportunities for poets, singers, actors and musicians.
