Fall Wildlife Festival
October 4, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, MN
Enjoy this annual celebration of wildlife, beginning with a 5K run/walk through the refuge. The festival also features live birds, horse-drawn wagon rides, nature crafts, wildlife discovery and a silent auction. All activities are free, except for the 5K. The festival takes place at the classroom site on Old Schoolhouse Road on the south side of CR9.

 

National Wildlife Refuge Week
October 4, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge, WA
Celebrate your wildlife heritage and the National Wildlife Refuge System at this event highlighting the wildlife in the Columbia Basin.

 

Log Cabin Day
October 11, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge, IN
Attend the refuge’s annual fall festival centered around a historic log cabin at the south end of refuge. Enjoy old-time crafts, a blacksmith demonstration and interpretive tours to eagles’ nests. Don’t forget the free ham and beans lunch.

 

National Wildlife Refuge Week
October 12 – 18
Many refuges will host public celebrations this month of National Wildlife Refuge Week, which falls on the second full week in October. The nation’s 562 national wildlife refuges protect wildlife habitat while cleaning our air, filtering our water and pollinating our crops. They also provide world-class hunting and fishing and hiking. Check the special events calendar for Refuge Week events.

 

Wings Over Water
October 21 - 26
Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge is a key site of this six-day annual wildlife festival that celebrates the many creatures and habitats native to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and adjacent lands. Activities include paddling, birding, photography and more.

 

Festival of the Cranes
November 18-23 — Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, NM
