Junior Duck Stamp Art Exhibit
Monday, July 1, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Seney National Wildlife Refuge, MI
Admire original nature artwork by kids from across the country. The work of first-place winners from each state and U.S. territory will be on display in the visitor center all month.


First Fridays at the Refuge
Friday, July 5, 5 p.m. — Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge, MO
Enjoy a family event with food and music. Activities will include refuge tours, a turtle touch tank and a nature-based magic show.


Birding Festival
Saturday, July 6, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. — Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, MN
Learn how to enjoy bird watching from a professional birder. Search for nesting birds on the refuge.  


Trim the Trails
Saturday, July 6, All Day — Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge, ME
Help the Friends of Aroostook Refuge trim refuge trails. All ages are welcome.


Refuge Tour
Saturday, July 6, 10 a.m. — Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, VA
Enjoy a naturalist-guided bus tour of the refuge.


Open House
Sunday, July 7, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. — Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge, MI
Visit and explore Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge’s Gibraltar Bay Unit. The open house is sponsored by the Grosse Ile Nature and Land Conservancy.


Refuge Storytime
Friday, July 12, 10 a.m. — Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, WV
Join a free story hour for preschoolers, hosted by the refuge and Friends. This event will be cancelled if area schools are not in session. Call ahead to confirm: 304-866-3858.


Refuge Astronomy
Friday, July 12, 8 p.m. — Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge, NJ
Join the Friends of Wallkill River Refuge and the Skylands Astronomy Club in exploring comets, meteors and asteroids.


Eastern Bluebirds
Saturday, July 13, 2 to 3:30 p.m. — Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, NY
John Rogers has been involved with the conservation of Eastern bluebirds for more than 35 years. He’ll share information on the life history of the birds and nest box management.


Mingo Night Life – Bats

Did you know that one little brown bat can eat up to 1,000 mosquitos in a night? Learn more about these fascinating creatures.


Summer Birding

Meet the Interns

Hear our enthusiastic summer interns “show and tell” what they’ve been doing on the refuge this summer.


Butterfly Count
Sunday, July 14, 1 to 3 p.m. — Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge, IA
Take part in the annual butterfly count at the refuge.


Blue Goose Day
Thursday, July 18, 5 to 8 p.m. — Audubon National Wildlife Refuge, ND
Spend a family-oriented evening learning about hunting, wildlife conservation and outdoor skills. Youth will have the opportunity to fire air rifles, shoot bows and arrows, set up for a camping experience and learn about backyard bird feeding. Following the event, a picnic lunch will be served. All kids receive door prizes and educational materials. No pre-registration required. Meet at visitor center.


Nature Story Hour
Saturday, July 20, 9 a.m. — Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge, IL
Enjoy tales of the refuge at the visitor center, located near the village of Brussels, on Hagen Road about four miles from the Brussels Ferry.


Karner Blue Butterflies
Saturday, July 27, 9 a.m. — Necadah National Wildlife Refuge, WI
Explore areas of the refuge. Learn about the Karner blue butterfly, a tiny endangered species.
