Where to See Fish

Rainbow Dam in Windsor, Connecticut

  • Fish ladder and visitor viewing area, kiosk.

  • Open during the spring migration, early May through late June, dawn to dusk.

    From I91, take Exit 40 to Rt 20 West. After a few miles, take the "Hamilton Road South" exit, then turn left at the bottom of the ramp. At the "T", take a right onto Rainbow Road. Within a mile or so the dirt road entrance to the fish ladder will be on your left.

Holyoke Dam Fishlift, Holyoke Gas and Electric

  • Viewing Windows and Interpreters

  • Open during the spring migration, generally early May through mid June, Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

    Take Exit 17 from I-91 South or North (Rt 141) and follow the signs to Rt 141 East toward Holyoke; Stay on Rt 141 bearing right at the 2nd set of lights; Continue of Rt 141 for 6 more lights and at the 6th light, turn left onto Main Street (Rt 116N); Turn left at the fishway sign just before the South Hadley Bridge in Holyoke (Veterans Memorial Bridge). Turners Falls Fish Ladder, FirstLight Power Resources Services, LLC

  • Viewing Windows and Interpreters

  • Open during the spring migration, generally mid May through mid June, Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

    Take exit 27 from I-91 South or North (Rt 2 East); take a right at the 2nd light and go over the bridge; Turn left after the bridge onto First Street; The fishway is on the left. Call for hours and information, 1-800-859-2960 or (413)548-9138.

Vernon Dam Fish Ladder, Vermont

  • Viewing gallery

  • Open during the spring migration, mid May through late June. Hours vary. If we are not counting fish, the Visitor Center closes at 3:00 p.m.).

    From Brattleboro, take Rt 142 South toward Vernon. About a mile after the center of North Vernon, turn left onto Governor Hunt Road, and follow it to the viewing facility.

Richard Cronin National Salmon Station, U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service

  • Mon-Fri 8:00-4:00, Year-round

    51 East Plumtree Road, off of Rt. 116 in Sunderland (near "Bub's Barbeque").

Pittsford National Fish Hatchery, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

  • Come visit! The Pittsford National Fish Hatchery is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

    • The hatchery is located near Rutland, VT. Take a right off Rt. 7 north. Follow signs to Furnace Brook Road.
