ABC Primer

This is an Online Training course that we plan to develop and release in early FY 2007. The course will teach students the basics of Activity Based Costing (ABC) and how it is being used at the Fish and Wildlife Service.

This document is the Training Guide that we used to teach Analysis Studio to newly licensed users at NCTC in October 2006. The document teaches users how to use the Performance package to view data from the FWS Operations plan, but uses all the skills covered in the Analysis Studio Training Guide. Cognos Analysis Studio Beginner Course

(Online Training Course, available in DOI Learn)

Cognos Analysis Studio is the primary software tool used to analyze the ABC cost and performance data. This online course covers the basic skills necessary to work in the Cognos Analysis Studio software.

It is available to all Analysis Studio licensed users.  This course is intended specifically for newly licensed users, or those users who were unable to attend the October 2006 classroom training at NCTC. Those users looking for a quick refresher on targeted skills may prefer to view the Cognos Online Video Tutorials instead of taking the online course. 

You can register for the new online course in DOI Learn. Log in to DOI Learn, select the Course Catalog tab, and search for ‘Cognos Analysis Studio Beginners Course’.  The course takes approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete (this can be done in multiple sessions) and requires management approval to register.

Cognos Analysis Studio Advanced Course

(Online Training Course, coming early 2007)

This is an Online Training course that we plan to release early in 2007. The course will be available in DOI Learn. It will teach users advanced skills in Analysis Studio including creating complex reports, working with stacked sets, and expanding dimensions. As a prerequisite users should complete the Analysis Studio Beginner Course.

Cognos Enterprise Planning Online Course

(Online Training Course, coming early 2007)

This is an Online Training course that we plan to release early in 2007. The course will be available in DOI Learn. It will teach users how to enter and approve performance actuals and targets in the Enterprise Planning software application.

Cognos Metrics Studio - SES Templates Online Course

(Online Training Course, coming early 2007)

This is an Online Training course that we plan to release early in 2007. The course will be available in DOI Learn. It will teach users how to run, print, and annotate the SES templates in Metrics Studio.

Cognos Live Tools Training

(Classroom Training, next course TBD)

This is a 2 day classroom training course offered at NCTC. The training allows students to sign up for training on any or all of the Cognos software applications (i.e., Analysis Studio, Enterprise Planning, Metrics Studio) and covers the fundamental skills. Additionally, the course covers the Activity Based Costing methodology, the integrating of cost and performance information, and explains how ABC is being used at the Service.

Enterprise Planning - Training Guide

This document is the Training Guide that we used at NCTC in October 2006 to teach newly licensed users about the Enterprise Planning application. FWS Time Coding

(Self Paced-Training, 30 minutes)

The Department of Interior requires all its Bureaus to track employee time in the current FFS and FPPS systems. The on-demand FWS Employee Time Reporting Worksheet Training provides detailed instructions on how to complete the time reporting worksheet either electronically or using a hard copy of the timesheet. Each version of the training identifies the various nuances associated with completing that version and provides instruction on how to save the FWS Activity Dictionary on the employee's desktop. Each version also provides a list of regional contacts so that employees can speak with a live representative if they have questions that are not addressed during the training presentation. Metrics Studio - Training Guide
