Sundvall-Halling-Ludvigson-Kollock Wetland Restoration Project

This wetland restoration project was developed in cooperation with four different landowners in McKinley Township in northeastern Polk County.  These former marsh and meadow wetlands were drained decades ago for livestock pasturing and as a result were less productive for wetland dependent wildlife species.  The project consists of constructing two low-head embankments on two sites which will flood and enhance approximately twenty-two acres of wetland marsh to a depth of less than three feet.  The restored marsh and meadow will provide an excellent nesting and brood rearing area for migratory waterfowl, valuable stop over sites for migratory shorebirds in spring and fall, and prime wetland habitat for indigenous amphibians and reptiles.

Those landowners who developed partnerships with the USFWS and WI-DNR and contributed to the success of this project include Gerald and Penny Sundvall, Vaughn Halling and family, Guy Ludvigson, and Jone' Kollock,
