National Wildlife Refuge System
Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge is part of a much bigger system in the United States known as the National Wildlife Refuge System. The National Wildlife Refuge System contains more than 94 million acres set aside to protect wildlife and habitats. Refuges range in size from less than an acre to more than 19 million acres. They provide a diversity of habitats for a variety of wild creatures. Most certainly some species exist today only because of the protection afforded by National Wildlife Refuges.
