TMinnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge and Wetland Management District also manages a large network of waterfowl production areas (WPAs). These are designated lands set aside for the production of waterfowl. WPAs provide an excellent example of prairie grassland habitat and wetland restoration efforts of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and its many partners. The Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge manages over 4,255 acres of land in its thirteen county Wetland Management District as WPAs. In the near future, more than 1,500 acres of WPAs will be added through a unique partnership with the Minnesota Valley Trust. The Minnesota Valley Trust is acquiring new lands, which will be donated to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and managed by Minnesota Valley Wetland Management District as WPA units. Please check back for new WPA units for waterfowl conservation and public use.
