Refuge firefighters are making preparartions to begin burning approximately 2,000 acres of stubble fields on Lower Klamath and Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuges in Oregon and California. Plans are also in place to burn 200 acres near Lane Ranch on the Kalmath Marsh National Wildlife Refuge.
Weather permitting, burning may start the first of October and continue through the fall. Air quality regulations will be followed.
Nearby residents and refuge vistiors should expect smoke in the vicinity of any prescribed fire activity and drivers should heed extra attention while traveling though or adjacent to burn area.
No burning is planned for the week.
