Greetings from the Refuge Manager
We are pleased to announce that the Comprehensive Conservation Plan and Final Environmental Assessment (CCP/Final EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Humboldt Bay NWR Complex were signed by Ren Lohoefener, Regional Director for the Pacific Southwest Region, on September 24, 2009.
The signing of the FONSI signifies the approval of the CCP and the adoption of Alternative C, as analyzed in the January 2009 Humboldt Bay NWR Complex Draft CCP/EA.
The final CCP outlines the management direction and strategies for Humboldt Bay and Castle Rock NWRs for the next 15 years. Management activities will focus on the conservation of the Refuges’ resources, particularly migratory birds and wildlife species that are federally listed as threatened or endangered, and their habitats;and providing opportunities at Humboldt Bay NWR for compatible wildlife-dependent recreation including wildlife observation photography, environmental education, interpretation, and hunting.
The planning team and I wish to thank you for your comments and suggestions throughout the CCP process. Hundreds of people participated over the past three years to make this plan a reality. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks for your help and your time. We look forward to seeing you at the Refuge very soon.
Eric Nelson, Refuge Manager
