Print Friendly Version
The Lake Havasu Fisheries Improvement Program partnership broke ground on an accessible fishing site located on the BIll Williams River NWR. The partnership includes the Service, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Land Management, The Arizona Game and Fish Department, La Paz County, and Central Arizona Project. Construction began in April, 2002 with the Seabees, Third Naval Construction Brigade, donating over 4,000 hours of labor in metal fabrication and assembly, and concrete and retaining wall construction. The partnership is currently planning and designing interpretive facilities to be located throughout the project area. Long-term plans include an outdoor environmental education facility and a conoe/kayak launching area. The facility will include solar lighting to accomodate night use. To date over $500,000 has been committed by the partners. The next phase includes two months of donated labor by the United States Marine Corps.
