On Sunday, December 15, 2013, Clarence Cannon National Wildlife Refuge participated in a “Holiday Home Tour” sponsored by the Elsberry Chapter of the Future Farmers of America, Elsberry, Missouri. The event provided a great opportunity to support this great group of young adults who have volunteered many hours at the refuge over the years. The refuge also took this time to inform the public of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the refuge.

Decorations available for display featured trees, natural dried arrangements, live greenery and origami animals. A burlap banner which read “Celebrating 50 Years of Wildlife” was the first thing in view as the public entered the visitor center. Winning photographs taken on the refuge by visitors for the 50th anniversary photo contest were on display, along with information about the history of the refuge. Refreshments including cookies, punch and cider were provided for everyone’s enjoyment.

A special “Thank You” goes out to the Elsberry Future Farmers of America students who helped out during the event. Nathan Stone, Naomi Gladney and Joey VomBey, 2013 summer Youth Conservation Corps employees, provided much needed helping hands!
