The Second Annual Friends Open House was well attended and enjoyed by all participants. The open house bring Friends members and the general public together to retreat from the holiday rush and enjoy the beauty of nature in company with others. The Friends shop added new items this year for those interested in purchasing nature-themed gifts. A display of photos taken by visitors within the Wallkill River NWR showed the scenery and wildlife found along the trails. Friends volunteers prepared and served refreshment for all the participants. Workshops on decorating with natural materials were provided for children and adults. Volunteers helped children decorate pine cones and make pine cone wood elves. Adults used plant materials to create an evergreen swag. Many visitors asked how soon we will be doing the event again.
