On September 7, the 14th annual Fall Festival was held at Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. This year's theme was " Celebrate Pollinators" with a focus on the importance and diversity of pollinators. The festival featured partner exhibits and displays focused on this theme. The day long event also included interpretive walks on trees, butterflies, and wildflowers/pollinators as well as river seining and family archery instruction. Children received a free insect finger puppet and enjoyed a variety of pollinators crafts and games. An original 10-minute play was presented titled "Daisy and the Buzzy Pollinators". The winners of the Friends of Great Swamp 2013 Photo Contest were announced and lunch was provided by Friends of Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. At the end of the day, 80 volunteers and over 500 visitors left with a better understanding of the importance and diversity of pollinators as well as an appreciation of the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge and all it has to offer for wildlife and visitors. The event is co-sponsored by the Friends of Great Swamp NWR and the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge.
