San Bernardino NWR Participates in Southwest Wings Birding and Nature Festival
Southwest Region, July 31, 2013
Print Friendly Version

The 22nd Annual Southwest Wings Birding and Nature Festival took place on July 31 through August 3. The festival is one of the nation’s best birding festivals and brings in visitors from all over the United States, as well as a few from other countries. The San Bernardino National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) participates in the festival annually. This year the refuge hosted an information booth providing visitors to the festival information on the two local refuges, San Bernardino and Leslie Canyon, and information on local wildlife. In addition to the information booth, refuge staff also gave a presentation on the two refuges and gave three birding tours, one of which was on San Bernardino NWR. The festival has taken a hit on visitation for the last few years, corresponding with the downturn in the economy, but there were still approximately 1,500 visitors that attended the festival this year.
