Spring Creek National Fish Hatchery released 4.8 million tule fall Chinook salmon into the Columbia River this morning. This was the second release for the hatchery, the first was April 11 when they released over 6.4 million. It was a picture perfect day for the release. Over the next two weeks the salmon smolts will make their way past Bonneville Dam and out to the Pacific Ocean where they will live for the next two to five years. Adult salmon return to the hatchery in late August each year for spawning, which is a great time to visit Spring Creek! Spawning occurs from September 16 - 30. Call the hatchery at 509-493-1730 for details.
