Staff from Mora National Fish Hatchery was invited to participate in Seveilleta NWR’s Refuge week event held on October 13. Mora staff were on hand to provide archery demonstration and instruction. Participating students were instructed on range safety, archery terminology, and proper shooting forms. Safety was a paramount concern, and all participants were instructed in range rules and whistle commands. Hatchery staff have been certified as archery instructors by USA Archery and the National Field Archery Association. Only after all students understood the basic techniques were they allowed to shoot the equipment. The class was open to all age groups and skill levels. The attendee’s ages ranged from retirees looking to pick up a new hobby to grade school students in their first extra-curricular activity. The experience between the students was just as broad, including first time archers to accomplished hunters. The students freely enjoyed this experience. The event was a family occasion as the parents of some of the students joined in on the fun.
