The seventh annual Women in the Outdoors skills workshop was held at Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge April 13 and 14, 2012. This annual event provides women of all ages the opportunity to learn about some of the activities that can be enjoyed outdoors while experiencing the beauty of nature - even those activities they've not had the chance to try on their own. In fact, no experience or knowledge is required and there were activites to suit everyone's interests.

A total of 58 women registered and 50 participated. Women came from a borad area including Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Illinois. Classes ranged from canoeing to primitive weapons to raising chickens. There were 18 different classes. Major sponsors included the Capital City Fly Fishers, Forest City Lions club, Friends of Squaw Creek, The Missouri Department of Conservation and various retailers from St. Joseph, Mound City and Oregon.
