Little River NWR entered a float in the 41st Annual McCurtain County Christmas Parade on December 5, 2011. The theme of the parade was “Shining the Light of Christmas”. The Refuge float was a hit with the kids in the crowd as Rudolph and Puddles made their appearance. The refuge float came in second place in the non-commercial float category and was awarded $175.00. The prize money was donated to the McCurtain County Angel Tree program. The program provides toys to underprivileged children in the community, so that they may have a brighter Christmas.
