A group of natural resource professionals and enthusiasts joined forces September 10 and 11 to participate in bikeMS: Express Scripts Gateway Getaway Ride; an annual mid-Missouri cycling tour in support of the Gateway Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The Hellbenders, named in honor of our endangered species (and the general disposition of our team members), rode with over 3000 cyclists from across Missouri and surrounding states to raise awareness of MS and, in our case, awareness of endangered species. The team enjoyed fielding a variety of questions from cyclists and volunteers throughout the weekend.

Hellbender members rode either 75 or 100 miles each day and included Rick Hansen, Shauna Marquardt, Amy Salveter, and Liisa Niva Schmoele, all from the Columbia Missouri Field Office, as well as Karen Bataille, Tim George, and Brandon Schmoele. The team raised over $1750 in support of the St. Louis Gateway Chapter.
