Print Friendly Version
The second annual managed muzzleloading white-tailed deer hunt for persons confined to wheel chairs was completed December 11-12, 2010.

Eight participated assisted by helpers.  The eight fought the harsh cold weather but one was able to havest a nice trophy buck - Tim Smith from Foley, Missouri.

All hunters saw deer.  Several local organizations were partners and supported the hunt by providing volunteers and providing meals. The refuge provided hunting blinds and shooting sticks for each participant.

On January 8 & 9, 2011, the annual antlerless only white-tailed deer muzzleloader hunt was completed .  One hundred and seven hunters of the 125 selected hunted while 11 canceled and 7 did not show.  Each hunter could harvest a maximum of 3 antlerless deer.

A total of 44 deer were taken, a 35% success rate.  This was the second consecutive year of a poor harvest and the lowest on record since the hunt was initiated in January 1988.
